-write a pattern rule for input and output numbers and extend the pattern on a table
-create a table to show a pattern from a word problem
-answer a word problem using more than one operation (multiplication, subtraction, addition)
-write your own word problem

Grade 6- complete an input/output table
-write a pattern rule and extend a pattern
-use divisibility rules
-use integers to represent a situation
-draw an input/output machine
-find missing numbers in equations (sometimes this will involve inverse operations!)
-create recursive patterns

Grade 5 Lesson 3 Changes in Matter
Grade 6 Write paragraph with a definition of what static electricity is  and a diagram. Find things in your house that have static electric electricity.

Language:

For your novel study remember:

Implicit means understood but not plainly or directly expressed.

Explicit means expressed fully and clearly, directly stated.

Novel meanings can be implicit or explicit. Some novels will tell you the theme very clearly and plainly.
Others do not and you have to make inferences or 'read between the lines' to get the overall meaning.

Word work-Exercise 1 Word Skills
Write definitions with EXAMPLES for ten spelling/vocabulary words.

Language:

Due to the excessive amount of talking in class today, most of you need to finish your Personal (point of view yourself/ write in first person) Narrative (elements of a story, also true) tonight at home.

Success Criteria:
-interesting, highlights only
-use your unique voice to describe events
-word choice. Use 'juicy' words and your senses to describe your feelings and experiences.

Bring your 500 word narrative on the topic of vomit tomorrow. We will edit in small groups to create a final copy to be shared with other teachers and students.

Math:

Both grades Unit 1, Lesson 3 in Math Makes Sense,
and JUMP 5.1 pages 10-15
JUMP 6.1 pages 11-15


Arts:  

Reflection on tableau activity was due today.

Science:

Grade 5's need to begin to honestly assess their cooperative work during the glue experiment on Tuesday. You will be completing that tomorrow. This will have an  impact on our ability to do experiments and hands' on work, so I am looking forward to hearing your constructive ideas about what we could do better.

Math:  Patterning problem from the Elmo today. Treat it as a Math Journal in your notebook. Use the glossary from Math Makes Sense.

JUMP Math-the next FOUR pages in 5.1 or 6.1.

Social Studies Grade 6- some of you have not submitted your re-organized portfolio. This is a major part of your mark in the Global Links unit. Please get them in as soon as possible.

Four people have not shown me parent signatures in their agendas for their Math tests and Art reflections. You have until Monday.                                                                                                                                                                   
Grade 5's- there are two spots available in the Tech Club (meets Fridays at lunch). Troy will come in on Monday with forms. Please discuss with your parents.

Several students need to have parents/guardians sign their agendas (marks from the Math tests must be shared)!

Again, we don't know what is happening yet with the PA Day next Friday, but I will be calling parents for interviews. Expect a call tomorrow or Monday.

Fill out media release form for Circle Square. If you are not comfortable, just strike it out and write your child's name on it so I know you have seen it.

Grade 5 Science-reflect upon today's activity. Tomorrow there will be written homework.

Language-bring your Non-Fiction template in for tomorrow so we can write a final draft after feedback.

Good news!

It looks like the teachers' union and the government have a tentative agreement. 

At the school level, this means field trips and extra-curricular activities are back on.
I will keep you updated about those on the blog.
Progress reports, with comments, will be issued in December.

I will be meeting with parents this week to discuss student progress, and have been calling parents.
