EQAO testing for grade 6 will take place beginning May 31st. We will be prepping the students in-class…and there is much you can do at home as well if you wish.
HOWEVER, the best preparation for a test is for a student to arrive with:  a full stomach, adequate rest, lots of exercise, and a positive 'can do' attitude. Students and parents need to be aware that the EQAO results do NOT affect the student's report card or progress in school. They are a diagnostic assessment of learning in classes and schools as a whole, to help the education system determine where we are doing well, and where we can do better.

Programming will continue as usual in the morning, and field trips will resume after the test is over.
If you feel you need to do further preparation, you can download EQAO practice tests and have your child complete them at home. If you choose to download a test, please treat it as usual homework and do not put pressure on your child to spend more than their usual time on it. Your child may benefit from this review of their language and math skills. You may choose to do as many tests as you like (or none) and as much/little preparation as you prefer. It is up to you to mark and review the test with your child. Please see below for more information:
To download past EQAO practice tests:
1) Go to www.eqao.com and enter the English site.
2) Click “Parent Resources” (a blue link at the top of the page)
3) Click “Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division (Grades 1–3) and Junior Division (Grades 4–6)”
4) Scroll down until you see the title “Student Assessment Booklets and Scoring Guides (test questions and examples of student answers).” Below this you will see links of past EQAO tests according to year.
5) Once you click on one of the year links, you will be able to download the Student Assessment Booklets (Language 1 – Reading, Language 2 – Writing and Mathematics), the Scoring Guides (which show you what a level 1, 2, 3 and 4 look like) and Multiple-Choice Answer Keys.

Hello everyone!

I am not with you but I am thinking about you. Ms. Melanson is keeping me up-to-date on the classroom happenings.
Please continue with Geometry in your Math Makes Sense textbooks and your JUMP workbooks.
We will have a test on Monday.
(Hint-it's very important to know the Math vocabulary.)

We will be going to Toronto Island during the last week of school. I am trying to get an adult to supervise. Please try not to book anything that week, as there is also Grade 6 Graduation.

See you on Monday!

Ms. M.

Homework:

Math: Monday to Friday there will be JUMP Math in Book 2, and finishing the Geometry Unit 7 in Math Makes Sense.
Lesson 2 homework is today, Lessons 3-7 are next week. The test will be the week after.

EVERY lesson in Math Makes Sense has a corresponding work in JUMP Book 2.
For example, the expectations in JUMP are at the top of the page. The Grade 6 Geometry expectations are 33-40, 23-24, 26-27, 29-31, and 12-13 (which is in Book 1).

Language: The focus this week will be on how to answer multiple choice questions and write responses to short answer questions. The genre will be poetry (figurative language).  Commas will be part of this. Expect to see some homework.

Please do not plan trips or appointments for the first week of June if your child is in Grade 6 as we will be writing the EQAO.

Finally, summer school is at Rose Avenue School this summer, mornings in July. Please ask your child or Valarmathy for the forms.

Welcome back! We had a very successful trip with a lot of nature and history.
We particularly enjoyed bike riding, feeding chickadees, playing on the beach, and making new friends.

Students may be tired tonight but are expected to be at school tomorrow.
